Castleford hand Rumsford new role

Castleford Tigers

Castleford Tigers have appointed Tim Rumford as their new player performance manager.

The former Hunslet and York player moves up from being the Tigers' community development officer, a post he has filled for the past 12 months.

"This is a great honour for me and a new challenge that I am really looking forward to," said Rumford.

"We already have some fantastic top quality juniors at the club and I am looking forward to working with them."

The West Yorkshire club have also appointed Richard Pell as assistant coach to the reserve grade team to work with new coach Chris Chester.

Meanwhile Steve Ellerkar will continue to support the reserve grade coaches and club director Brian Ashworth will manage the academy side.

Scholarship coaches Dave Winter and Chris Cartwright will become assistants to Dean Sampson, the head coach of the academy.

Head of Youth Development Steve Gill said: "I am very pleased that Tim Rumford has taken on this role.

"He is hard working, well respected and I have seen the very good work that he has done with the scholarship and in the community.

"We see this as a promotion for Richard Pell from under 18s coach last season and his experience will be invaluable.

"We will have a much stronger reserve grade squad next season and this new role is part of Richard's long term development with the club."
