Castleford Tigers rising star Joe Westerman has signed a new four-year contract at the Jungle. The 18-year-old loose forward has scored seven tries in his first full season in Super League, including a hat-trick against Warrington Wolves. Westerman, who has kicked 42 goals in his two seasons at the club, said: "I am really happy at the Tigers and had no hesitation in signing. "The club has an exciting future and I want to be a part of it." He established himself as a first team-regular in 2007, making 24 appearances and he made a major contribution to the promotion-winning season. "Joe has tremendous talent and also a commitment and desire to succeed. He is an essential part of our plans in the years ahead as we aim to move up the Super League table. "In his first year in Super League he has contributed significantly and his attitude to training and playing is first class. "He is still only 18 years of age and has the ability to play for England or Great Britain in the near future." Westerman added: "With the young players at the club and the new stadium coming along I am looking forward to being here. "I have learnt a great deal under Terry Matterson and I want to continue to improve my game and eventually play for England."
