Castleford Tigers have completed the signing of 21-year-old forward Brendan Hlad and - subject to a work permit - former Wakefield prop Ned Catic.

The Australian players have signed for the rest of the current season.

Hlad joins from Penrith Panthers and can play at front or back-row and Catic, 29, has been playing for Lyon.

"Brendan is very keen to break into first-grade rugby after a very successful season," Castleford football manager Michael Robinson said.

"He is a real hard working player and we feel that given this opportunity he will do a great job for us.

"We had hoped to bring him over a couple of weeks back but things were held up by red tape, so we are delighted that we have been able to conclude the deal and he could go straight into the squad for the weekend's game against Catalans.

I know that there are only four months of the season left but I am looking forward to making an impact

"With Ned, we have agreed a deal but, because of the paperwork and the permit situation, which is a little complicated, that can't be completed by the weekend, but we hope that he will be available for the Millennium Magic game against his former club Wakefield."

Hlad said: "This is a big opportunity for me and a great chance to help the Tigers.

"I have a very good work-rate, I'm very committed and can give plenty of game-time. I played prop for much of last season and regularly stayed on for the full 80."

On his return to West Yorkshire, Catic said: "I'm pleased to be joining the Tigers and I'm looking forward to a new challenge.

"I'm ready to go after just finishing a spell playing in France and possibly a debut against the Wildcats. I know that there are only four months of the season left but I am looking forward to making an impact."
