Matt Orford targets trophies with Bradford Bulls

New Bradford Bulls signing Matt Orford is hoping to help his new club win some silverware following his high-profile move to Super League.

The Australian half-back arrived in the UK on Sunday and could make his debut against Leeds Rhinos on 17 January.

Orford told BBC Radio Leeds: "I think as a team Bradford deserves some silverware. If we get off to a good start then anything is possible.

"The Challenge Cup means a lot over here - that's one of the goals."

The 31-year-old, who has signed a three-year deal, knows Steve Menzies, Brett Kearney, Glenn Hall and Heath L'Estrange from Australia.

"It's made it easier knowing a few of the guys," Orford said.

"Steve loves the place and that was enough for me. He's a Manly boy through and through so for him to stay here another year, it didn't take me too long to make the decision.

I think he would be a captaincy candidate because of the way he plays the game and the respect he has in the game

Bradford coach Steve McNamara

"I really enjoyed the experience that we had last year in the World Club Challenge against Leeds. It seems a very fast game and hopefully it will suit my game. It seems to be a more free-flowing game.

"I've had offers in the past but at the time I was always contracted. The timing was right this time. I'm here for three years and I want to do something special with this group.

"I knew it would be cold but I was surprised to see all the snow.

"I come from the northern beaches and to go from 35 degrees to minus five is a big change. I'm cold and a bit jet-lagged but I'm just excited to see all the boys.

"It's been a bit of a whirlwind over the last four or five weeks. The whole deal happened fairly quickly but it was always a goal to come over here and play. It's a new chapter in my life."

Bradford coach Steve McNamara said: "He's a proven player in the NRL over a number of years and the authority and experience he will bring to the side will be great for the group.

"I think he would be a captaincy candidate because of the way he plays the game and the respect he has in the game but he only arrived yesterday. We'll have a chat about lots of things later in the week."
