Salford came from behind to earn a win that lifted them a place to 12th in the final Super League 2010 table.

Astonishingly, it was 0-0 at The Willows at half-time in a dour game.

Tevita Leo-Latu's early second-half against the side he is to join next season then livened it up, the Reds responding through winger Steve Tyrer.

Salford ran in two more through Ray Cashmere and the departing Stuart Littler, on his final appearance, to seal a sixth straight Wakefield defeat.

Sean Gleeson got a late consolation try, while Tyrer, also on his last appearance for the Reds, ended up with an eight-point haul for Salford, after landing two conversions.

Littler, captain for the day, enjoyed a fairytale ending to his Salford career with the winning try to round off a mistake-littered contest between two clubs who have endured miserable seasons.

His try-scoring farewell marked the end of an era at The Willows with eight players heading out of the club.

Willie Talau and regular skipper Malcolm Alker, who will remain on the coaching staff, are both retiring.

And, along with Littler and Tyrer, Karl Fitzpatrick, Jeremy Smith, Phil Leuluai, Ian Sibbit and Luke Swain are all leaving, Salford having already started organising their close-season clear-out.

Wakefield, who also had a last hurrah of their own for skipper Jason Demetriou, had to settle for 11th place after failing to notch the victory they needed to climb above Bradford, who finish 10th.

More worryingly, their two tries ironically both came from players who will be with Salford next season.

Leo-Latu has already signed for the Reds for next season, while Gleeson is also expected to be at the The Willows in 2011.

Salford coach Shaun McRae told BBC Radio Manchester:
"It's a nice way to finish the season and a fitting send-off for some of the players who were able to take to the field.

"I thought it might have been a little more of an open game a bit more expansive but I think the conditions didn't help.

"I wouldn't call it a classic game but it was one of those that probably typifies the end of the season when you're not playing for a play-off spot or the wooden spoon."
