Harlequins (10) 12 Tries: O'Callaghan, Jones-Bishop Goals: Orr 2
Hanbury's winning try came with four minutes left |
Late tries from Jason Chan and Rhys Hanbury saw Crusaders climb into the Super League play-off places with victory over Harlequins at The Gnoll. Quins led 10-4 at the break thanks to a converted Ben Jones-Bishop try after Jamie O'Callaghan's early score had been cancelled out by Hanbury. A Danny Orr penalty with nine minutes left extended the visitors' advantage. But in a thrilling finale, Chan gave Crusaders hope before Hanbury crashed over to win it. Victory sees Crusaders climb above Castleford into eighth place, while Harlequins remain bottom.
Crusaders coach Brian Noble: "We have won four on the bounce now and that kind of habit is good. "I don't think I can cope with the amount of stress we placed on ourselves tonight but I'm absolutely thrilled for the players. "It is a measure of how hard they have worked and it is a success story when you look at where we started in January. "I thought we were a bit flat but, with 10 minutes to go, a couple of fabulous plays from people brought us over the line. We had to wait until the end to give us what we wanted." Harlequins coach Brian McDermott: "They found themselves with two tries at the end which put it to bed. There was an interception for one try and it was an unfortunate bounce and slip for the second. "There will not be too much I will be saying in review of what the fellas should have done differently. "I don't think we dominated Crusaders and they didn't dominate us. It was that type of game."
