Fa'asavalu has seven Samoan caps and three for England |
St Helens' England international Maurie Fa'asavalu has been ruled out for another three months after his shoulder injury proved worse than first thought. The prop forward, 30, needs surgery to mend a muscle tear that has ruled him out of his side's last three matches. However there looks to be better news on full-back Paul Wellens. Wellens suffered a head injury at the end of Saturday night's surprise 42-34 Super League loss at Salford but appears to have quickly recovered. The Merseysiders will hope that Samoan-born Fa'asavalu, who played in his club's first 13 matches of the season, will be available for the Challenge Cup final on 28 August at Wembley, should they get there. St Helens host Championship side Barrow in the quarter-finals of the competition on 30 May.
