Bradford (12) 40 Tries: Lynch, Whitehead, Sheriffe 2, Kearney 2 Goals: Orford 8
Hull KR (0) 4 Tries: Cockayne Sheriffe's quick-fire brace killed the game off and ensured a Bulls win |
Bradford Bulls dominated from start to finish against a one-dimensional Hull KR to move fifth in Super League XV. Rovers lacked discipline, made too many errors and should have been more than 12-0 down at half-time after tries from Andy Lynch and Elliot Whitehead. After the break the Bulls pulled away with two tries apiece from Rikki Sheriffe and Brett Kearney. Rovers had Jake Webster sent off for a high arm with 10 minutes left before Ben Cockayne got a consolation try. Bradford's forwards were just too strong for the visitors, a fact made obvious when Lynch barged his way over the Robins' line on seven minutes. Bull's skipper Matt Orford added the first of his eight goals in a faultless display with the boot. Clinton Newtown added more evidence to the difference in size and weight between the team's when he fell off a tackle on Whitehead only to see him cross the line four minutes later. Rovers consistently gave away penalties and made handling errors that handed the advantage to their opponents and were lucky to still be in the game at the interval. The Bulls emerged from the break and set about seeing the game off as Orford slotted back-to-back penalty goals. Michael Worrincy's powerful line break put Sheriffe clear and he rounded Shaun Briscoe to slide into the corner. Sloppy handling from Peter Fox led to the Bulls next try and quick hands and a brilliantly-disguised pass from Steve Menzies found Sheriffe who ran in untouched. The Bulls' fifth came with nine minutes remaining as Kearney darted in from dummy half. Webster was shown a straight red shortly before Cockayne went over and Kearney added his second moments before the end
Bradford coach Steve McNamara: "It was a good all-round performance. It poured down with rain just before the start of the game but we did the basic things well. "I know we keep talking about Easter but you would start to feel the after effects now and we still managed to do the basic things. "We held onto possession, didn't give too many penalties away and controlled the play-the-balls so we could defend. "We'll be disappointed we conceded a try, but we went 80 minutes at Dewsbury last week and then 80 minutes again today, and we've only conceded four points." Hull KR coach Justin Morgan: "We just lacked a bit of concentration in defence at times and gave away way too much field position during the first-half. "We looked a little bit agitated with the ball in hand and lacked a bit of confidence, that might come from last weekend's game. "Our execution was a little bit poor, we didn't take the right options but the issue was that we lacked concentration. "Defensively we didn't concentrate as well as we could have."
