Sheriffe's tries helped lift Bradford to fifth in Super League |
Winger Rikki Sheriffe scored three tries as Bradford Bulls held off a second-half fightback from Catalans Dragons to take the win. Bulls dominated first half, and took a 16-point lead thanks to tries from Sheriffe, Andy Lynch, Brett Kearney, and conversions from Matt Orford. The Dragons got going after the break with Steve Bell and Gregory Mounis crossing the line. But Sheriffe was on hand to complete his hat-trick and seal the victory. Mistakes in play cost the Dragons, who lie second from bottom in the table and Bulls were fully in charge for the first 40 minutes. Lynch scored from Heath L'Estrange's short ball to bring up 200 points for his career. Matt Orford kicked the conversion and added a penalty midway through the first half as Catalans offered little to encourage their frustrated supporters. Kearney added to the Dragons' woes, darting through the French side's defence to collect L'Estrange's kick and dive over the whitewash. Catalans hit back through Frederic Vaccari and their performance continued to pick up thanks to Bell and Mounis. But Bradford quickly regained control and Orford kicked a penalty for a high shot on Kearney before Sheriffe rounded off the win with two tries in the final two minutes, both after good work by Steve Menzies.
