Broadbent won the last of his eight Test caps against Australia in 1997 |
Ex-Great Britain prop Paul Broadbent has been appointed as assistant coach to new Wakefield boss John Kear. Broadbent, who captained Kear's Sheffield Eagles team to their shock 1998 Challenge Cup final victory over Wigan, will take up his post on Monday.
The 38-year-old forward, who made eight Test appearances for the Lions, also played for Hull and coached York.
"I don't want to see the Wildcats go down and I will be doing everything to keep them in Super League," he vowed.
Kear, who was sacked by Hull earlier in the season, has succeeded Tony Smith, who left Super League's bottom last week.
"Paul epitomises honesty, hard work and toughness. I hope these attributes will reflect on the team," said Kear.
