Paul Wellens gave Saints an early lead before Sean Long and Leon Pryce built up their lead just before the break. Jamie Lyon, Jason Hooper and Maurie Fa'asavalu stretched the lead before Sam Obst, Semi Tadulala and Ryan Atkins put the home side back in the game. Jon Wilkin and Wellens made it safe for Saints before a Ben Jeffries try for Wakefield rounded off the scoring. St Helens coach Daniel Anderson:
"We got through - I know one thing, I will not lend my support to a Tuesday night Test match. "It's back to the middle of the Easter period again. We were tired - that's
the bottom line. "Credit to the opposition; they're a dangerous team. But we did enough to win
the game." Wakefield coach Tony Smith:
"One thing you've got to learn when you play St Helens is that you've got to concentrate for the full 80 minutes. "I think a couple of lapses in concentration really cost us it. "I will say St Helens were just too clinical. If we'd been playing anyone else, we would have won."
