Salford struck first as David Hodgson ran in a superb try but a Scott Donald try and Kevin Sinfield conversion put Leeds 6-4 ahead at the break.
Junior Langi went over to put Salford in front but Leeds hit back with tries from Chev Walker and McGuire.
Simon Finnigan then touched down to close the gap but McGuire's second try sealed the win for Leeds.
Salford coach Karl Harrison: "I'm bitterly disappointed that we've come with away with nothing. I thought we were outstanding and deserved something from the game.
"Leeds were a bit more clinical than us but I can't fault my players because we are on a learning curve.
"The defensive effort was superb and it's been like that for most of the season - and it was pretty good last season as well."
