Wigan have secured the services of Leeds winger Mark Calderwood on a two-year deal which starts in 2006.
The 23-year-old, who scored his fourth hat-trick of the season in the Rhinos' 54-14 win over Salford on Friday, will see out this season at Leeds.
But he rejected a contract extension and also bids from two rugby union clubs to pledge his future to Wigan.
"I not only want to stay involved in rugby league, I want an international spot," said Calderwood.
"I had a chance to stay at Leeds, but I want to play for Wigan and I have a terrific chance next year. I am looking forward to playing well both for Wigan and my country."
Calderwood is seen as a replacement for Great Britain winger Brian Carney, who is leaving Wigan at the end of the season to join Australian club Newcastle Knights.
"We think it's a very significant signing and we're very excited about utilising his speed on the big pitch of the JJB," said Wigan coach Ian Millward.
Against the win over Salford on Friday, Leeds coach Tony Smith confirmed Calderwood's future plans and said the player was a pleasure to work with.
"He's certainly not going anywhere until the season is over," said Smith.
"It's a pleasure to coach him and it's a pleasure to watch him finish what he's doing at the moment.
"We'll talk about his replacement next year. But he's done with Leeds and has been for quite some time."
