Woods replaced Gary Mercer at the end of last season |
Castleford have parted company with Australian coach Dave Woods. The Tigers returned to Super League at the first attempt with Woods at the helm, but the club have decided not to renew his 12-month contract.
"Dave made a strong case for being re-appointed and the board gave careful consideration to his position," said Cas chief executive Richard Wright.
"But, whilst giving him enormous credit for that, success we felt that we needed someone with more experience."
Woods arrived from Penrith Panthers after Castleford's relegation last year and steered them back to the top division with a 36-8 demolition of Whitehaven in the National League One Grand Final.
"Having achieved our objective of a return to Super League, we need to give ourselves the best possible chance of retaining our place in the top flight," added Wright.
"We have very ambitious plans for the future. The head coach will be crucial to those plans and it is essential that we make the right appointment.
"We have already had very significant interest from some very good coaches and we will now move forward and look to make an appointment as soon as possible.
"We would like to place on record our thanks to Dave for his hard work this year and his part in taking us back into Super League and to wish him all the very best for the future."
