Woods must wait to learn whether he is being kept on |
Newly-promoted Castleford have failed to confirm whether coach Dave Woods will be retained next season. Woods joined the Tigers from Penrith Panthers 12 months ago and steered them straight back into the Super League after they were relegated last season.
Chief executive Richard Wright said: "Dave's done a good job but we always said we would wait and review everything at the end of the season.
"Certainly by the end of October we ought to be a lot further forward."
The West Yorkshire club returned to the top flight with a 36-8 win over Whitehaven in the National League One Grand Final on Sunday.
And Wright has revealed that eight members of the Tigers' Grand Final squad are signed up for 2006, including captain Andy Henderson.
In addition to Henderson, Castleford have secured Aaron Smith, Craig Huby, Michael Shenton, Michael Platt, Waine Pryce, Damien Blanch, Paul Handforth and Bryon Smith, who was not in Sunday's squad.
Wright also said that filling the club's three overseas quota spots is his priority.
Wright said: "They are absolutely key to our fortunes next year. If we can get quality quota players in key positions, that would be a great start and then we would build from there."
Castleford have already been linked with former half-back Mark Lennon, who is returning from Manly to play for Wales in the European Nations Cup, and Wests Tigers back row forward Mark O'Neill.
And Wright hinted that Australian Brad Davis would be handed a full-time backroom role.
The 37-year-old Davis has combined his playing duties with coaching the club's under-21s this year.
"Brad would like to stay on in a coaching capacity and he's shown an ability with the under-21s," said Wright.
