Substitute Paul White struck twice in seven minutes as Huddersfield beat Widnes in a drab basement battle. The Vikings scored first through Simon Finnigan before Earl Crabtree touched down to bring Huddersfield level.
White then launched his first-half blitz and Paul Reilly extended the Giants lead just before half-time.
Marcus St Hilaire scored next for the Giants before Finnigan and Aaron Moule (2) hit back, but St Hilaire scored again before the final whistle.
Afterwards, Giants coach Jon Sharp said he was happy but could still see room for improvement after their comprehensive win.
"At half-time we looked comfortable but our try early in the second half caused us concentration problems," he said.
"We played well for large parts of the game and overall I'm very pleased."
Widnes coach Frank Endacott blasted his team for their first-half display, saying the match was lost as the home side ran in 18 points in 13 minutes.
"We came here to get two points but we were dreadful in the first half. I couldn't believe we were that bad," he said.
"We fell down with some basics and must show more fight too, but we made a game of it in the second half."
