Lindsay backs UTC bid
Wigan chairman Maurice Lindsay is confident Union Treiziste Catalane will be playing Super League rugby in 2006.

The French side were told on Tuesday they must wait until 26 May to find out if their application was successful.

But Lindsay insisted: "We're very keen to have the French club in. I'm sure it will be a 'yes' vote in May."

Lindsay claimed Huddersfield, London, Salford, Warrington, Wakefield and Widnes wanted more time before deciding if UTC deserved Super League status.

Huddersfield chairman Ken Davy said he was in favour of a delay in order to further scrutinise the French bid.

"The meeting was equally divided on how quickly the issue should be addressed," he said.

"Some felt there was a need for more information before such a historic step is taken - and I was certainly in that camp.

"The French club has great merit in a significant number of areas but we need to ensure that, if we take this step, it will be successful."
