Newlove needs two more tries to reach a Super League century |
Former Great Britain centre Paul Newlove is set to become the second high-profile player to leave Super League champions St Helens. The 31-year-old former Featherstone and Bradford player has been told his contract will not be renewed at the end of the season.
The announcement comes just a week after stand-off Tommy Martyn, also 31, was told he would not be offered a new contract.
Newlove said: "It's disappointing because I've spent eight years at Saints and I believe I can still play at Super League level for another two years."
Newlove, who needs just two more tries to become only the third man to reach a century in Super League, joined St Helens in a world record 250,000 move in 1995.
St Helens have been linked with a move for New Zealand and Canterbury Bulldogs centre Willie Talau in recent weeks.
