Martyn has enjoyed plenty of success with Saints |
Super League champions St Helens will release stand-off Tommy Martyn at the end of the season. Martyn, the 2000 Super League players' player of the year, is out of contract once the current campaign ends and has been told his services are no longer required.
"Saints have told me it's for financial reasons but I am devastated because I still feel I have at least another couple of years left at the top level," said Martyn.
The 31-year-old is currently out of action with a broken arm but will be back in a month's time.
"I intend to prove I'm still good enough to play in Super League," he said.

Martyn, who joined from Oldham 10 years ago, has scored 127 tries in 211 matches for St Helens and forged a top half-back pairing with Sean Long.
Saints say the decision to release Martyn was based on commercial pressures and the need to constantly renew and refresh the playing personnel at the club.
Chief executive Sean McGuire, said: "It's not been an easy decision. Tommy has been an outstanding servant for the club and is a very popular player here.
"He's a great character to have at the club and everyone here is grateful for that and for the memories - but we feel the time is right to allow Tommy to move on."
Meanwhile, Saints have confirmed that winger John Kirkpatrick has joined Halifax on a month's loan.
