McRae was replaced as coach by Jason Taylor last month |
Former St Helens and Hull boss Shaun McRae will stay on as director of rugby at South Sydney Rabbitohs after being axed as coach last month. McRae, replaced by Jason Taylor at the end of August, has agreed a new two-year deal at the club.
"I've spent a lot of time thinking about this new position and the role I can play in the revival of the club," he said.
"And I came to the decision I wanted to make the move into a managerial role."
In his new role, he will be responsible for the management of all football operations at the club, including the recruitment and retention of players.
McRae, the only man to hold a position as head coach throughout the first nine seasons of Super League, was sacked with a year left on his contract after the National Rugby League side finished the 2006 season with the wooden spoon.
