Aspinwall has been a regular since his move from Wigan |
Huddersfield winger Martin Aspinwall has been added to the Great Britain training squad ahead of next month's Test against New Zealand. The 24-year-old, who represented England in 2003, joined the Giants from Wigan at the start of the season.
The clash with the Kiwis takes place on 27 June at Knowsley Road, the home of Super League side St Helens.
Aspinwall will be in the running for the Tri-Nations series in Australia and New Zealand at the end of the season.
"I was a bit disappointed I wasn't in the initial squad," said Aspinwall, who can also play in the centre. "I thought I deserved to be in it. I've been happy with my performances really.
"I thought that if they were picking 36 men on form I should be in. I wouldn't have been bothered if I had been playing badly but I haven't been playing badly."
Meanwhile, New Zealand have confirmed that they will not be seeking the release of players from Australia's National Rugby League for the game against GB at Knowsley Road on 27 June.
But New Zealand Rugby League president Selwyn Bennett said they will still regard the game as a full Test.
"The selection policy for our team is that New Zealand-qualified players within the engage Super League will form the basis of the side but the game is being recorded by ourselves as a full international," he said.
"The NZRL does not award caps for any matches but any player who features in the game will be credited with a Test appearance in our official records and will be treated as full New Zealand internationals."
