Alker told to ignore Lions snub
Lions boss Brian Noble
Noble has included four hookers in his 40-strong squad
Salford coach Karl Harrison has urged hooker Malcolm Alker to prove Brian Noble wrong for leaving him out of his 40-strong Great Britain squad.

Harrison says Alker deserved a Lions call-up because of his brilliant form.

"I don't know what the kid has got to do to get a look-in," said Harrison. "I spoke to him about it and he's fully focused on the job at Salford.

"Hopefully it will give him an extra spur and make the people who have made the selections think again."

Noble has included four specialist hookers - Terry Newton (Wigan), Keiron Cunningham (St Helens), Matt Diskin (Leeds) and Mickey Higham (St Helens) - in his squad but there is no place for Alker.

Harrison insists that is a mistake and hopes Alker will play some part in the matches against Australia and New Zealand.

"Brian Noble has told me it's not the final squad but even so I think it would have been good to put guys in who have deserved it but I'm probably a bit biased," said Harrison.

"I think in Test-match football you need good defenders who don't give penalties away and have good technique.

"That's what Malcolm Alker has. The defensive part of his game has come on in leaps and bounds. His form has been as good as anybody's in Super League this season."
