New Zealand's Ruben Wiki hailed his side's Tri-Nations title win over Australia as "momentous". Wiki, who picked up his 50th Test cap in the game, helped his team to a shock 24-0 win over the world champions.
He said: "It's a momentous result. We believe in each other and in our coach. He's set a structure we all believe in and we did it. History is sweet.
"Our spirit was brilliant and this is the best feeling ever. Everyone doubted us but we all did our jobs."
Australia were below par throughout the match and rarely looked like troubling New Zealand's try line during the 80 minutes.
Victory was sealed by two tries from Manu Vatuvei, scores by Paul Whatuira and Brent Webb and eight points from the boot of Stacey Jones.
Jones only arrived on Friday after a 12,000-mile flight back from Down Under to attend the birth of his third child.
"It was definiely worth coming back for," said Jones. "To keep Australia to nil is just awesome, our defence was just fantastic." New Zealand coach Brian McClennan said his team had been "confident all week" of producing a surprise win.
"The boys were very strong - we concentrated on our go-forward," he said. "The changes were to bring a bit more speed around the ruck.
"They went with four props, we went with three and it paid off."
Australian coach Wayne Bennett admitted he was disappointed by the loss but insisted "people will get on with life".
"What are they going to do, stop us getting back into Australia?" he said.
"Life will go on. We are big enough nation to take a loss. It was going to come one day, it just happened to be tonight unfortunately.
"We lacked discipline and gave away penalties in the first half. I was confident we could play better than we did in the first half but even though we did play better it didn't get any better."
