Aussie players loophole remains
Andrew Johns
Aussie star Johns joined Wolves for the play-offs run-in
Rugby league's world governing body has opted not to close a loophole allowing Australian-based players to join Super League clubs on short-term deals.

The sport's International Federation, meeting in Leeds, decided to leave the matter in the hands of each league.

Newcastle scrum-half Andrew Johns set the precedent of registering with two different clubs by joining Warrington for the last month of the season.

Adrian Morley and Sione Faumuina joined Bradford and Hull on similar deals.

The Federation said: "The registration of players in more than one domestic competition in the same season (should be) addressed by each nation discussing the issue autonomously with the aim of forming their own rules."
