Wiki led the Kiwis to a historic win over Australia earlier this month |
New Zealand captain Ruben Wiki will become the most capped player in rugby league history when he lines up against Great Britain on Saturday. The 32-year-old will win his 47th cap at Loftus Road to overtake fellow Kiwi Gary Freeman and Great Britain duo Gary Schofield and Mick Sullivan.
"I just love playing for my country and playing for my team-mates," said Wiki.
"I'm really passionate about the black and white jersey. I just want to do my country proud."
Wiki, who made his international debut back in 1994, said he was surprised to reach the milestone.
"I'm not a stat man," said Wiki.
"They reminded me last week when I reached 46 to equal the record - it kind of snuck up on me."
New Zealand coach Brian McClennan paid tribute to Wiki's achievement.
"I couldn't speak highly enough of Ruben," said McClennan.
"He is one terrific person. He leads by example and makes everybody feel good. When he walks into a room, he's got an aura about him.
"His work ethic and training ethic is second to none. He trains as hard as he possibly can and he's in excellent order. I think he is in better condition than he was last year.
"We're very lucky that we have Ruben leading us onto the field."
