Ireland got their European Nations Cup bid off to a winning start with a 25-12 victory against Wales. The Irish led 18-0 at half-time thanks to tries from Phil Cantillon, Anthony Stewart, Carl De Chenu and Stuart Littler.
A second Littler try on the hour mark put Ireland further ahead before Wales rallied in front of a crowd of 1,296 at the Talbot Athletic Ground in Aberavon.
Jordan James and Mark Lennon scored for the home side but it was not enough.
Ireland will make the final if they beat Scotland in their final pool match in Navan on 29 October.
Wales must win away against Scotland on 24 October to keep their hopes alive.
