Burrow scored two tries and kicked two conversions after coming off the bench
Leeds moved to within one win of securing a Super League play-off place with a 10-try thrashing of Castleford. There was no repeat of Sunday's tight Challenge Cup semi-final as Leeds led 20-0 at the break through Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Ryan Hall and Kallum Watkins. And they showed no mercy by running in a further seven tries after the interval, with Brent Webb and Rob Burrow both crossing twice. Ben Jones-Bishop, Danny McGuire and Ali Lauitiiti were also on the scoresheet. Only Kevin Sinfield's golden penalty in extra time separated the sides last weekend at the Keepmoat Stadium, but this contest was one-sided, with Cas looking drained of energy and confidence. | That's the first time all year we've done what we all know Leeds can do. I know we've put some points on some teams this year, but that's the first time I've looked at it and thought 'wow, this is pretty special' Leeds coach Brian McDermott |
Castleford were not helped by the absence of playmaker Rangi Chase, who is out of the country following a court appearance in Australia. But Leeds could have been ahead before they opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Castleford wing Richard Owen allowed McGuire's kick to run and Jones-Buchanan pounced on the loose ball. Jones-Buchanan then sent Hall racing clear for Leeds' second try, with Burrow putting in Watkins for the third. Three tries in five minutes at the start of the second half killed the game as a contest. | Emotionally, after last week, we were knackered. After going behind following an absolutely diabolical error from Richard Owen, heads went down and confidence eroded Castleford coach Terry Matterson |
Webb grabbed the first after Carl Ablett and MuGuire combined to send him clear, Jones-Bishop then raced in at the right corner after taking Weller Hauraki's long pass before Kevin Sinfield sent Lauitiiti in. But Leeds were in the mood for more points as Burrow went over twice in quick succession after good work from Ablett and then Danny Buderus, before McGuire and Webb completed the rout.
