A devastating turn of pace from Rangi Chase saw Cas draw level at 18-18 |
Castleford centre Joe Arundel scored twice as Castleford come from behind to beat Bradford 34-30 in a classic West Yorkshire derby at Wheldon Road. The Bulls, who scored twice early on through Brett Kearney, were always ahead until the 65th minute. But Cas came from 30-18 down shortly after half-time to earn their first win in four matches. Rob Parker, Arundel, with his second try, and loose forward Stuart Jones led their spirited second-half recovery. Bradford started well, Kearney grabbing a brace inside the first five minutes, before Adam Milner hit back for Cas. Gareth Raynor extended the Bulls' lead, only for tries from Arundel and Rangi Chase to level the scores at 18-18, but Shad Royston crossed a minute before the break to earn the Bulls a half-time lead. They then extended that to 30-18 within a minute of the restart through Paul Sykes. But, five minutes later, on-loan Salford prop Parker ploughed over for his first try for the club, Arundel got his second on 54 minutes. With a quarter of an hour left Cas took the lead for the first time when Jones got in on the act with a try which proved to be the winning score.
Castleford assistant coach Andy Hay: "From our point of view it was a great win, especially after the week we've had and playing in midweek at Wigan. "Coming from behind like we did was a great credit to the guys and it's something we need to continue next week." Bradford coach Mick Potter: "I thought they played really well and deserved the credit that their coach will give them for a job well done. "But we weren't good enough because we just made errors - and they were unforced errors."
