Murrell began his career with Leeds in 2003 |
Hull KR duo Liam Watts and Scott Murrell have received surprise call-ups to join England's training squad for the Four Nations championship. Watts, 20, and Murrell, 25, are uncapped and join team-mate Peter Fox and eight Warrington players in coach Steve McNamara's train-on squad. The 11 additions follow Hull KR and Warrington's elimination from the Super League play-offs. The Four Nations is in Australia and New Zealand in October and November. The call-up for prop forward Watts is reward for an excellent first season of full-time rugby with Hull KR, in which he played in all but one of the team's 27 Super League matches, while stand-off Murrell has also been a regular this season. The train-on squad now consists of 23 players, with Ryan Atkins, Garreth Carvell, Ben Harrison, Mickey Higham, Adrian Morley, Richie Myler, Chris Riley and Ben Westwood the Warrington players who have been included. The 23 will be eligible to play in the Garry Purdham Memorial Game against Cumbria in Whitehaven on 3 October - the day before McNamara announces his final 24-man squad for the Four Nations. | 606: DEBATE |
The England coach has already drafted in Melbourne Storm full-back Gareth Widdop, who scored a try on his debut against France in June, and South Sydney forward Sam Burgess. Wests Tigers second-rower Gareth Ellis could also join them in McNamara's final 24. McNamara said on 13 September that Hull's Willie Manu would not be in the squad, even though the Australian-born second-rower formed part of his 37-man get-together in July. Warrington centre Chris Bridge has ruled himself out of taking part in the Four Nations because he wishes to be present at the birth of his first child. The tournament takes place from 16 October to 13 November and involves Papua New Guinea as well as England and the two host nations.
