Widnes Vikings' Anthony Thackeray believes the manner of his side's 30-10 win against Sheffield Eagles proves they are moving in the right direction. The 24-year-old stand-off scored an eye-catching try in Thursday night's victory at the Stobart Stadium. "In the second half we were really under pressure," he told BBC Radio Merseyside. "We've been doing some team bonding and soul searching. We've got to dig in for each other and that's what we've done." Thackeray was delighted with the win, which came after a difficult week for the club following the death of coach Paul Cullen's wife Christine. "It was a massive game," said Thackeray. "Not just for the win but it's been a really emotional week. "All our hearts go out to Paul Cullen and his family. "Some of the lads were playing their last home game here tonight for the club, so it's a real big night for us." After a season of mixed fortunes on the pitch, Thackeray now hopes Vikings can keep up a high level of performance as the season draws to a close. "We've got to put pressure on ourselves to play well every week," he said.
