Former Whitehaven prop Sam Thompson has been handed a two-year suspension after breaching the Rugby Football League strict anti-doping regulations. The 23-year-old produced a sample containing a metabolite of drostanolone, an anabolic steroid, after a Marras training session. He was released by Whitehaven in December having failed the World Anti-Doping Agency test. The suspension starts from 30 January, when the provisional ban began. Having started his professional career with St Helens, Thompson also played for Harlequins in Super League before joining Haven in October.
