Swinton (6) 6 Tries: Joseph Goals: Holroyd
Batley (30) 58 Tries: Campbell 2, Gallagher, Potter, Martin, Maun, Moore, Greenwood 2, Tootill, Hesketh Goals: Moore 7
Batley made no mistake as they booked themselves a Challenge Cup quarter-final against Catalans on Sunday week. Six first-half tries effectively settled this delayed fifth round clash before the break at Sedgley Park. Johnny Campbell, John Gallagher, Craig Potter, James Martin, Danny Maun, Gareth Moore all crossed. And there were five more after the break from David Tootill, Lee Greenwood (2), Sean Hesketh and another for Campbell, Moore kicking seven goals. That took three-times winners Batley to their first Challenge Cup quarter-final for 99 years. Phil Joseph provided the Lions' lone reply before the break, veteran former Leeds stand-off Graham Holroyd adding the goal. Batley's reward was to earn themselves home advantage for their quarter-final against Catalans at Mount Pleasant on Saturday 29 May (1730 BST). Swinton's thumping fifth round defeat came 33 days on from being beaten 56-4, also on home soil by Halifax in round four. Batley were originally due to meet Halifax on 9 May, only for the tie to be called off when Halifax were thrown out for fielding an ineligible player. That earned Swinton, Halifax's fourth round opponents, a reprieve. But Championship side Batley made sure there would be no upset against their Championship One opponents.
