Thorman's two brothers have played for Gateshead |
York City Knights assistant coach Chris Thorman will face hometown club Gateshead on Sunday in the Carnegie Challenge Cup third round. He told BBC Radio York: "I know a lot of their players and coaching staff and the people that run the club. "It will be nice for me to go back but hopefully not so nice for them to have me back because I'm well up for another good performance from the boys. "We need to improve again from the weekend. It's going to be tough again." He added: "We'll just be concentrating on what we're good at." | I've never won it but I've been to the final at Twickenham with Huddersfield against St Helens |
Thorman said the Challenge Cup is a competition he has happy memories of from his time with Huddersfield Giants. "I've never won it but I've been to the final at Twickenham with Huddersfield against St Helens (in 2006)," he said. "I made a couple of semi-finals with Huddersfield. Probably the thing that stands out for me is the semi-final win against Leeds at Odsal. "Playing in a really on-form Huddersfield side, I got man of the match in that game and we comfortably beat Leeds so on a personal level that would be the one that stands out for me. "And obviously leading out the Huddersfield Giants at Twickenham for their first final in something like 55 years is very special. "Generally the whole magic of the cup. It's a different competition and teams seem to raise their game and it's all about getting as far as possible and potentially drawing a Super League club."
