Whitehaven lost their second consecutive Northern Rail Cup game by suffering a 34-26 defeat by Batley at the Recreation Ground on Wednesday. Kicking let Haven down during the match, having matched the visitors' five tries, as Carl Rudd was only able to dispatch three of the five efforts. Batley on the other hand kicked seven goals thanks to the accuracy of scrum-half Gareth Moore. Haven are now seventh in the group, with Batley joint-second with Widnes.
