After running in 10 tries in 2009, Riley matched half that number in one game
Warrington made an exhilarating start to their season as they destroyed Harlequins at Halliwell Jones Stadium.
And winger Chris Riley led the way, running in five of the 11 Wolves tries.
Two tries in the opening seven minutes set the tone as Garreth Carvell, Richie Mathers, Michael Monaghan, Chris Bridge and Riley all crossed by the break.
Riley then added four more, backed by further efforts from Richie Myler and Simon Grix as the home side ran amok, falling just short of a club record.
Warrington's Super League scoring record remains their 66-6 win against Halifax in 2003.
But Tony Smith's side did manage one individual feat, Riley, who scored only 10 tries in 27 games last season, becoming the first Warrington player to record five touchdowns in a Super League match.
Right winger Riley's haul was only one short of Lesley Vainikolo's Super League record of six for Bradford against Hull in 2005.
It was also a fitting celebration for skipper Adrian Morley, who made light of a sleepless night helping his partner Clare give birth to a baby daughter - their second child.
It was revenge for Warrington against Quins, who thrashed Wolves 60-8 at The Stoop in only Smith's second match in charge last March.
It also meant Warrington carried on where they left off last season when they won the corresponding home fixture 44-34 - although a little more comfortably than last time.
Having gone down 18-10 in their Super League opener at home to Wakefield last week, Quins have now won just once in their last 14 league matches - a run dating back to last June.
But the weakened Londoners were without on-loan Leeds man Ben Jones-Bishop, who notched their two tries last weekend, as well as big guns Rob Purdham, Luke Dorn, Karl Temata and Jon Wells, and the suspended Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook.
Warrington, without injured duo Chris Hicks and Jon Clarke, handed debuts to Myler, their £200,000 capture from Salford, Ryan Atkins and David Solomana,
And Myler took only three minutes to make his mark before his smart inside pass enabled Carvell to charge over.
Mathers then cut inside for the second try and, after Quins had Chad Randall sin-binned on 20 minutes, Monaghan darted over for try number three from a quickly-taken tap penalty.
Warrington extended the lead when Bridge burst through from dummy-half before slick passing put Riley over for his first try, Lee Briers missing his first conversion to make it 28-0 at the break.
And, in the game of his life, Riley bagged three more tries in just five minutes as he followed up some unselfish play from Ben Westwood before finishing off two more slick moves.
Myler then got in on the act before Briers' inventive kick straight from a scrum brought Riley his fifth try - and there was still time for Grix to go over and for Myler to have a 12th try ruled out in the dying minutes for a forward pass.
Warrington coach Tony Smith:
"A few of Chris Riley's tries were served up on a silver platter but a winger has to be there. He showed good speed. And it's quite a feat to score five tries in any match.
"Adrian Morley only had an hour's sleep but there was no risk in playing him. I knew he'd be up for it.
"I feel for Harlequins having been on the other side at The Stoop last season but not too sorry for them.
"We have some very good attacking players and the new arrivals all did well. Richie Myler fitted in very well and was unlucky on a couple of occasions. And the players were as pleased with the nil against them as the positive scoreline."
Harlequins coach Brian McDermott said:
"Warrington were outstanding and white hot.
"But we could have had an influence over the scoreline. If we were going to lose it should have been by a lesser score.
"At this stage of the season it is not about winning but performance. But we have not too much to build on for next week and that's my main concern.
"There was not one single aspect of the game I was pleased with."
