Millward's team ended the season third from bottom in the table |
Leigh Centurions coach Ian Millward says Wednesday's relegation reprieve will prove a turning-point for them. Leigh were reinstated into the Championship by the Rugby Football League board of directors after Gateshead fell into administration. Millward told BBC Radio Manchester: "It's probably the shake-up the club needed in regard to looking down where they would have been. "There's been a bit of soul searching and hopefully that'll be shown." He added: "I don't think it'll be a quick fix. It's got to be an ongoing thing that'll earn respect and consistency." The Centurions finished equal with Gateshead Thunder on 32 points at the end of last season's Championship competition but were relegated on points-scoring difference. But the RFL board decided to reinstate them after the club that owned Thunder was wound up. A new parent company for Gateshead has been granted permission to enter Championship One next season, but with a minus-six point penalty.
