Fox ready if chance comes along

Peter Fox
Fox has won two England caps

Hull Kingston Rovers winger Peter Fox says he is ready to face Australia in the Four Nations if called upon, even though he does not expect to play.

The 24-year-old missed out against France, coach Tony Smith opting instead to play Hull FC's Tom Briscoe.

Fox told BBC Radio Humberside: "Tom didn't put a foot wrong. I'm not really expecting a call-up but who knows.

"I'll train hard this week and I'd love to play against Australia and I'm raring to go if needed."

Briscoe, 19, was a late addition to England's 24-man squad after Wigan's Shaun O'Loughlin was forced to withdraw with a broken hand and he took his chance, scoring the final try in a 34-12 win over France at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Fox was expected to be Smith's first-choice left winger and may get the nod over Briscoe for the clash against the Green & Golds at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

He said: "I was extremely disappointed that I didn't get a shot just to get 80 minutes under my belt but that's just the way it goes but there's still a few games left so I'm keeping my fingers crossed."
