Wakefield held off a late Salford rally to return to winning ways and keep up their Super League play-off challenge. Two early tries by Oliver Wilkes and Sean Gleeson put them on their way before Dean McGilvray responded. But Michael Korkidas went over just before the break and early second-half tries by Scott Grix and Dale Ferguson put the Wildcats 28-8 ahead. McGilvray went over again and Philip Leuluai crossed twice late on but the Wildcats had enough to secure the win.
Wakefield coach John Kear: "I think for 60 or 65 minutes we controlled it but let slip for the last 10 minutes or so in the first half and the last 10 minutes in the second half. "You've got to learn to be relentless and ruthless when you put yourselves in a good position, to put teams away. "We've four games left in which to close the season out and achieve a play-off place, which I think most people in here would say we weren't favourites for when the season opened. "But I wish people would keep of Shaun McRae's back. I think now is the time that the whole club need to pull together, be solid, be unified and support the guy." Salford coach Shaun McRae (on Kear's comments): "I'll have to pay him. We go back a long time, and the support is terrific. "But they deserved to win tonight - because they were the better side."
