Cullen says his side have lost too many key games to win the title
Widnes coach Paul Cullen says his side are not good enough to win the Championship after seeing them beaten 34-18 at lowly Gateshead on Sunday.
"We were beaten by the better side," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"They had a little bit more energy than we had, and we ultimately paid the price for it.
"I don't think Widnes are going to win the Championship to be honest," Cullen continued. "There's a lot of ground to make up there."
Cullen, whose side went into the game on the back of victory on the Northern Rail Cup final, had hoped a late run might bring the Championship leaders Halifax within reach but admits the Vikings' off-days have been too frequent.
"We've lost some important games in the past when we weren't quite right - we weren't quite right and lost this one.
"But we've proven once we can come up on the rails and it's about getting all of our bodies fit for the right game at the right time of the season."
