York City Knights have completed the signing of prop Sean Hesketh from Featherstone Rovers.
The 22-year-old, who has also played for Doncaster, has struggled to hold down a first-team place at Rovers.
Knights director of rugby James Ratcliffe told BBC Radio York: "We've made no disguise that we've wanted a prop over the last eight weeks really.
"There's not many of them about so we jumped at the chance and we've managed to get him on board very quickly."
Ratcliffe revealed that the Knights coaching staff had been watching Hesketh.
"We've seen him a couple of times and on the last occasion we saw him against our reserves a couple of weeks ago," added Ratcliffe.
"He's a very explosive prop who's got quite a bit of pace about him. He's also got some decent skill levels.
"We feel he'll add a lot up front such as Nathan Massey did for us last year and just add that little bit of punch and keep the other props on their toes."
Hesketh is available for York's Northern Rail Cup quarter-final tie at Widnes on Saturday 6 June.
