Workington Town have released four players from their first-team squad. Mark Hobson, Tommy Brindle, Carl Forber and Stephen Roper have all left the Blue Square North club as they can no longer afford the cost of travelling. "It's clear the plans that we had at the start of the season have not worked," chairman Dave Bowden told the club's website. "Therefore in testing times financially this move is in the best interests of both the club and the players." "The club have already moved to bring in Brett Carter from Barrow along with Marc Shackley and Marc Bainbridge from Whitehaven and are targeting other players to strengthen the squad," he added. The departure of the quartet follows the news that Jay Duffy and Ryan Benjafield had left the club last week.
