Vinnie Anderson's late try won the game for Warrington |
Warrington battled back from a poor start to gain a well-deserved victory over Hull at the KC Stadium. The Wolves were 14-6 down at the break and went further behind after Danny Tickle's second goal. Hull had surged clear through tries from Richard Whiting and Jodie Broughton, both converted by Tickle. But Warrington responded with tries from Simon Grix (2) and Chris Bridge before Vinnie Anderson's late effort sealed the win for the visitors. Victory for Warrington lifted them to tenth position while Hull remain in seventh place.
Warrington coach Tony Smith: "We were poor in the first half. "We were really disappointed with the way we performed. It was the first wet game we've had to deal with for a while and we didn't handle the weather well. "We couldn't get hold of the ball and it seemed like we were just defending and defending - and with 12 men. "But I thought Lee (Briers) stepped up tactically and I've got to mention the skipper, who was absolutely outstanding." Hull coach Richard Agar: "I'm disappointed about the loss but we've got a few troops out and I couldn't fault the effort at all. "I thought we set ourselves a good foundation in the first half. We shaped up quite well getting out of trouble. "We spoke at half-time about improving our kicking game and obviously that fell down. "We couldn't find any space with our kicks and spent the second half camped inside our own half and it took its toll."
