Castleford's James Ford gets to grips with Hull's Peter Cusack at Murrayfield |
Hull's revival continued as they beat Cas despite trailing three times. After six straight defeats they made it two wins in a row with a controversial Danny Tickle penalty and try by Danny Washbrook separating the sides. Mike Burnett cancelled out James Ford's opener for Cas before Kirk Dixon put the Tigers on top after the break. James Evans scored for Cas between tries by Peter Cusack and Richard Whiting, before disputed decisions set up Tickle and Washbrook to win it. The scores were locked at 16-16 with 12 minutes remaining when referee Phil Bentham harshly penalised Castleford's Mike Wainwright for an offence while playing the ball. Hull took advantage with Tickle kicking the goal before Washbrook capped a fine individual display by wrapping up victory with a late try.
Castleford coach Terry Matterson: "There were some things out of our hands that probably didn't help us today. "The penalty at the end, I don't know where that came from. We were going into a tense last 15 minutes. "I don't know what happened but my players were fuming about it. It certainly didn't help us because we had to start chasing the game again." Hull coach Richard Agar: "I don't why he gave the penalty, to be fair. Once he had given it, I didn't study the screen to see why. "I'll have to have a look at it on the tape to see if the ref was right or wrong but I know we have had one or two go against us over the last few weeks. "I think we should carry a Government health warning - it was another close one. "I was pleased with our attitude because there were times when things didn't go our way but we kept on being fairly positive."
