Hicks is in red-hot tryscoring form for the Wolves

A hat-trick from Chris Hicks helped Warrington to their second Super League win in a row as Huddersfield missed the chance to move to second in the table.

It was a second successive hat-trick for Hicks following his treble against Bradford, as the Wolves continued their recent improvement under Tony Smith.

Warrington, who moved up to 11th as a result of the win, led 20-6 at the break thanks to their dominance.

A Chris Riley brace and Michael Monaghan try sealed the win.

Huddersfield went into the game with a nine-month unbeaten record away from home, but Warrington's vibrant display ensured the visitors had to accept defeat.

While Hicks, who also kicked six goals, will garner most of the headlines for his 24-point haul, the winger was indebted to an excellent display from his centre Chris Bridge.

Warrington were 10-0 ahead after only four minutes after Adrian Marley's offload created the opportunity for Matt King to open the scoring, before Bridge handed Hicks his first try.

Huddersfield came back when Paul Johnson spilled Kevin Brown's high kick to allow Simon Finnigan to score and cut the gap to 10-6.

Hicks completed his hat-trick before half-time, with Ben Westwood and Bridge providing the assists.

The second half saw Warrington confirm their dominance through Riley and Monaghan's scores, and Paul Whatuira and Brett Hodgson's replies for Huddersfield were mere consolation.

Warrington coach Tony Smith on Chris Hicks:

"Chris was outstanding and we've all seen what talent he has. He just needs to be more consistent and is starting to find it.

"Huddersfield's pack has intimidated a lot of teams this season but our pack was strong.

"This gives players confidence about what we are doing."

Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown:

"Warrington were too good for us and our defence let us down.

"Perhaps too many people have been reading the papers - we certainly didn't get where we are in the league by playing like this.

"We have got to get back to working hard for each other. They were more hungry and aggressive than us."
