Hull KR moved into second place in Super League with a comprehensive eight-try win over Catalans Dragons. Rovers took an 18-0 lead inside 25 minutes with tries from Liam Colbon, Scott Murrell and Ben Galea. Clint Greenshields reduced the deficit before half-time but Rovers sealed the win with second-half tries from Jake Webster (2), Galea and Michael Dobson. Dimitri Pelo added a second try for the Dragons, who have now lost seven of the 11 league games in 2009. The victory sees Rovers leapfrog champions Leeds on 15 points, three behind league leaders St Helens. Rovers opened the scoring on four minutes when good work between Dobson and Webster put Colbon over in the corner. Murrell doubled the score 10 minutes later when he latched on to a pass at speed before Galea capitalised with a sniping run from dummy-half for an 18-0 lead, with scrum-half Dobson converting all three scores. | 606: DEBATE |
The sleeping Dragons were finally stirred from their slumber when Mounis swept downfield when he intercepted a Dobson pass, with Greenshields touching down after a fine solo effort on the right flank. The half-time break revitalised the Robins, who soon extended their lead with a Webster try, set up by a Dobson 40-20 before Galea allowed Dobson to go over in the corner. A clever clever Mounis kick allowed Pelo to score after Rovers conceded two quick penalties, but the victory was sealed when Galea barged over from close range on 70 minutes. A Paul Cooke kick saw Webster finish in the corner before Fisher rounded off the scoring in the final minute of the game.
Hull KR coach Justin Morgan: "There are 16 rounds to go, we're not even halfway. "My thoughts are just on improving the little things each week and not looking much beyond that. "I know there is certainly a lot of potential within this team but we have not completed the task yet and are not going to get ahead of ourselves. "It was job done, that would be the best way to describe it." Catalans coach Kevin Walters: "It was very disappointing. In the last couple of weeks we have been improving but we were just not on the money. "Hull KR played some good football but we jockeyed them along to some of their points. "This match was always going to be difficult and now we have got Leeds and St Helens twice. "It is a tough month and we'll see where we are after that. We could be back to where we were a month ago."
