Gateshead Thunder have signed back-row forward Brendon Hlad for the rest of the 2008 season.

The new National League Two champions signed Hlad from Super League side Castleford Tigers with a view to him staying for the 2009 season as well.

The 21-year-old Australian, a British passport holder, has found his opportunities limited at the Tigers.

Hlad is in contention for a place in the squad to face Blackpool Panthers this weekend.
