Vicki has watched Usain Bolt and Christine Ohuruogu's triumphs | Gateshead-born 400m runner Victoria Barr is part of the Great Britain team for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. She has agreed to complete a diary for BBC Sport on her progress, experiences and thoughts during the games. Here is her fourth diary entry, and with the events looming ever closer, Vicki has been busy training. Thursday, 21 August Hi everyone, Now been in the village for a week so I have just about settled in and know where everything is. There is so much to do and the Chinese have really worked hard in getting the facilities just right for the athletes. | Christine is a massive inspiration and deserved every bit of that success GB 400m runner Vicki Barr |
Training is still the main part of my day, and the weather in Beijing is a lot less humid so it's easier than in Macau. There is no need for the deckchair with ice-filled pockets. On the other hand, instead of a jacuzzi as an ice bath, we now have wheelie bins. Not as much fun! As you know, the relay isn't until Friday so I have had plenty of time to watch my team-mates compete. It was great to see Christine [Ohuruogu] take Olympic gold - the atmosphere in the stadium is overwhelming so it was amazing to see a GB athlete succeed. I did try to video Christine on her lap of honour but I was screaming and cheering so much I had to give in. Christine is a massive inspiration and deserved every bit of that success on Tuesday evening. I was also lucky enough to witness Usain Bolt break take the 100m title and break the world record. The crowd went crazy and he is such a showman. I better go now - I have relay practice and hopefully will find out what the final team will be. Will keep you all updated. Vic x
