Vicki Barr's Olympic Diary - Part Two

Vicki Barr

Gateshead-born 400m runner Victoria Barr is part of the Great Britain team for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

She has agreed to complete a diary for BBC Sport on her progress, experiences and thoughts during the games.

Here is her second diary entry, focusing on her arrival in Asia ahead of the games.

On Monday I flew from Newcastle to Heathrow which was pretty straightforward. I also got a nice round of applause from the other passengers on the plane, they knew I was off to Beijing as I was wearing my Olympic kit. I think I went a slight shade of red :-)

My flight from Heathrow to Hong Kong was due to leave at 1830 BST, once on the plane we were told that there would be a slight delay due to a technicality with one of the emergency doors.

So after a five hour wait we eventually took off at 2330 BST. However, it wasn't all bad as I managed to get upgraded to Business Class and had a bed to sleep in.

The rest of the flight seemed to go pretty quickly. Once we arrived in Hong Kong it was straight onto a ferry to Macau.

Now, I don't usually feel sea sick but the waves were a bit choppy and I began to feel a bit queasy.

To take my mind off this, I played the new athletics game on my PSP, challenging some of the boys to race me over 100m, I managed to beat at least one of them. Ha ha!

We arrived at the hotel, had some food, showered and straight off to bed. The hotel had planned breakfast in bed for all new arrivals so I had a nice long sleep.

However... after breakfast we were all told a typhoon was on its way. Panic was my first reaction!

Although it turned out not to be as bad, still we could not use the track, so I did my first session in the corridor of the hotel.

Don't worry I wasn't sprinting up and down in my spikes, it was a jog and stretch so was manageable.

It's 10pm at night now and sleep has not yet hit me, going to watch a DVD and then hopefully doze off. Lets hope the jetlag doesn't hit me!
