Hull KR (0) 16 Tries: Steel, Fox, Dobson Goals: Dobson (2)
Harlequins (28) 40 Tries: Randall, Sharp, Howell, Paul, Haggerty, Orr Goals: Purdham (8)
Harlequins put in a strong display to ease past a disappointing Hull KR and keep alive their faint play-off hopes. The Londoners took control from the start, racing into an 18-0 first-quarter lead after tries by Chad Randall, Will Sharp and David Howell. Henry Paul added to the tally after the break, with Gareth Haggerty and Scott Hill tries and eight Rob Purdham goals ensuring the win. Tries by Peter Fox and Michael Dobson were little consolation for Hull KR. Although Rovers looked to have soaked up the early Quins pressure, Randall went for the line after six minutes to touch down. Purdham added the extras and and moments later Sharp finished a good Quins move following an attempted interception from Jake Webster. Howell extended the lead on 14 minutes when he took Purdham's off-load from Hill's kick behind the defence for an easy try. | 606: DEBATE |
Purdham converted and then struck a penalty to give the Londoners a 20-point lead as the home side struggled to make an impact. Quins enjoyed the bulk of possession and Paul forced his way over in the 28th minute before a Purdham penalty after a foul by Jake Webster gave them a comfortable 28-0 interval lead. Paul Cooke made his return to the Rovers side as a replacement following a two-game absence for disciplinary reasons but it made little difference to his side's fortunes. Jon Steel gave them a glimmer of home when he scooped up Dobson's grubber kick to score in the opening minute of the second half. But Harlequins quickly ended any hopes of a comeback as first Haggerty and then Hill went over with Purdham maintaining his 100% record with the boot.
Hull KR coach Justin Morgan: "It's difficult to put your finger on what went wrong and a week is a very long time in the game. "We didn't turn up to play in the first half. We fell too far behind and we can't claw that back. "I sound like a broken record at times. I've said this plenty of times this season about conceding that many points and expecting to win games." Harlequins coach Brian McDermott: "It rivals Hull up here as our best performance on the road this season. Things just seemed to work and I thought we just looked in control. "Rob (Purdham) has been back with us now for a few weeks since his injury and he had a couple of ropey games mid-season. "I'm not going to play the violin for him but he was struggling with his back and his knee, but he just seems to be getting better and better. "We are such a massively different team when he's in it."
