Widnes chairman Steve O'Connor has said he will employ a full-time squad for the next three years in a bid to win a Super League licence in 2011. Celtic Crusaders and Salford took the two three-year licences on offer on Tuesday, much to the Vikings' dismay. But O'Connor, who took the club out of administration in 2007, said he will keep pursuing the coveted licence. "It is our intention, whether we're the only club in the National League, we will be operating full-time," he said. Widnes had stated a strong case for inclusion in the Super League, but must now wait until the next round of licences in three years' time. | 606: DEBATE |
Millionaire local businessman O'Connor is adamant the Cheshire club will not miss out in 2011. "Over the next three years I'm determined to stay, I'm determined to make something happen," he said at half-time during Sunday's 40-0 win over Dewsbury. "By the time we make it to Super League, we will have learnt how to be successful, how to understand the quality of our success and I'd be really pleased if you'll all come along with me."
